If you have your heart set on investing in up-and-coming private companies, options exist, but are limited. Obviously, there is a strong desire to get into hot private market tech companies, even if at an irrational cost. The simplest way to do this would be to float an exchange traded fund, or ETF, that held these private shares. Forge Global launched the Forge Accuity Private Market Index, a market capitalization weighted index that tracks the performance of 60 late-stage venture-backed private companies like SpaceX and Epic Games. Bottom line: there is no easy way to access private shares.

Why Apple is betting big on India
  + stars: | 2024-04-22 | by ( Arjun Kharpal | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +26 min
I think one estimate put, at one point, I think China was producing something like 90% of the world's iPhones. So when we talk about, you know, Apple manufacturing elsewhere, it's going take a long time to significantly ramp up iPhone production elsewhere. And you know, opening a physical Apple store often for Apple is a sign of a big deal. But you know, Apple looking at India going, wow, we've only got 7% of market share there, we could grow huge amounts. And of course, as we know, with Apple, the hardware is the, you know, one side of the equation, but also, you know, Apple makes billions of dollars off of its services business, which includes things like its App Store fees, it's Apple Pay, Apple TV, all of those other products and services.

How India is challenging China as Asia's tech powerhouse

New Delhi has sought to woo foreign tech companies and has been increasingly successful, with giants like Apple increasing their presence in the country. Tom Chitty: For years China has been Asia's tech powerhouse where the world's electronics and some of the biggest companies on the planet are located. And I think India is in the very early stages, to put it quite bluntly, of trying to do that. Tom Chitty: India have got an election this year as well, which is going to be interesting to see what happens there. You know, India has aligned itself slightly more to the countries that are currently a bit more anti-China, shall we say?

That's a lot of eggs in a few stocks, but you can't handle tracking more than 5 stocks. First, our recommendation is the first $10,000 be invested into a low-cost S & P 500 index fund. Keep in mind: A $1 million portfolio with only $10,000 in an S & P 500 index fund translates to a mere 1% weighting for that fund. That means, in theory, you could boost your S & P 500 index fund allocation to 40%. One final thought: Don't forget to factor cash into your portfolio weighting, which should be based on your near-to-medium-term outlook for the market.

We will only consider more general questions about the investment process or stocks in the portfolio or related industries. Also: What stop-loss percentage do you use for portfolio stocks? A stop-loss order is an order one can place to sell shares if they fall below a predetermined level. As a result, if bad news breaks and stock is set to open materially lower, your stop-loss order could be triggered. We don't find much use in stop-loss orders because we're monitoring our portfolio stocks constantly.

Six-figure hybrid job availability crashed nearly 70% while posts for in-person jobs nearly doubled, according to the Q4 2023 High Paying Jobs report from jobs platform Ladders. Higher income also made workers more likely to start looking for a new position that offers hybrid flexibility, the report states. This disconnect between what employers are offering and what highly paid workers want is causing tension in the return-to-office dance. The Scope 3 disclosure requirements have drawn strong criticism from many corporations, who claim the regulations are too burdensome. The climate disclosure rule was first proposed in March 2022. Since Congress has not passed major climate legislation for years, opponents of the SEC's climate rule will likely sue the SEC and cite West Virginia v. EPA, again arguing that Congress has not granted specific authority for the SEC to act on climate change. The disclosures required from the proposed SEC rule may shuffle the deck on companies that are considered "green" or "not so green." This week's question: Can you go into "buy to open," "buy to close," sell to open," and "sell to close" for options trades? If I believe the price of Apple will go up, I would buy to open a call option. This means I pay for the right, but not the obligation, to call on Apple shares — from the call option seller — should they appreciate. If I sell to close a put option, I'm booking a profit on Apple shares after they've declined. I will sell to close the contract I bought to open and buy to close the contract I sold to open (both trades are "to close").

While working there, Dunlap was tasked with helping organizations prepare to return to the office, by setting up their desktops, routers and printers on-site. 2024 Changemakers: How CNBC chose the inaugural list

Members of the CNBC Changemakers Advisory Board gave us many ideas, telling us that transformative leaders, especially women, are those who commit to meaningful change. Here's how we did it:From October 3–November 17, 2023, CNBC conducted an open call for nominations for the Changemakers List. Next year, we'll choose a whole new list of 50 women, and it is entirely possible that many of those women were nominated this year. Qualitative scores were added to the quantitative score from round one, with each weighted equally (50% qualitative, 50% quantitative), and nominees were re-ranked according to their total scores. Ultimately, a data-driven, systematic process led to the creation of the Changemakers list, the first of many more to come.

Women in leadership are reaching a level of success that is not only exceptional but highlights novel approaches to old business problems and identification of new market opportunities. The women named to the inaugural CNBC Changemakers list are creating a pattern of what it takes to defy the odds, innovate and thrive in a volatile business landscape. Make no mistake: There is still a distinct need for more coverage of innovative women leaders, and more support from the capital markets. Women leaders are still rare — they're less than 10% of S&P 500 CEOs, while women founders draw about 2% of venture capital dollars. By focusing on women who left an indelible mark on the economy and business world in 2023, CNBC Changemakers recognizes the accomplishments of names in the news and many who have flown under the radar.

Starting last year, profitability became a more consistent story for the largest online grocery marketplace in North America, with millions of monthly active orderers and Instacart+ members. The company says it has now delivered over one billion orders across its 85,000-store network encompassing 1,500 retail partners. "There were a lot of questions about whether Instacart would be just another pandemic fad," CEO Fidji Simo told CNBC . Simo, who took the top role at the company in 2021 and launched the Instacart Health delivery service in 2022, has made health care a personal passion. "Patients often go through years-long diagnostic odysseys, bouncing around from specialist to specialist with no one looking at the whole picture," Simo wrote on her LinkedIn.

It's been a bumpy road from 4,000 to 5,000, but the overall trend stays with big cap tech. Talk about timing: It launched just as the S & P 500 was recovering from the banking crisis, and MAGS has been one of the star ETF performers of the last year. A bumpy road from 4,000 to 5,000 The S & P 500 had been comfortably over 4,000 from mid-2021 into mid-2022, when rising rates pushed the broad index below 4,000. This is true not just this year, but since the S & P went over 4,000 at the end of March, as has international investing. If you own the S & P 500, which has become tech-dominant, you are happy.
